#StillNoDAPL – Fighting Expansion in Illinois

The battle to stop expansion of the Dakota Access Pipeline comes down to our efforts here in Illinois.

Save Our Illinois Land, the first intervenor in the case, continues the legal battle to stop the doubling of the capacity of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The The Natural Resources Defense Council has blogged about our efforts along the line and where things stand now:

  • The Illinois Commerce Commission must determine if the project is both necessary and in the public interest
  • Energy Transfer Partners, owner of the pipeline, argued that it is needed because shippers want to ship oil, production is up, and global demand is up
  • Most of the oil pumped through the pipeline is destined for export and will not benefit Illinoisans
  • Circumstances have changed and past demand projections no longer hold true

We have a fabulous legal team that includes advisors from environmental organizations across the Midwest. We can’t thank them all enough for their dedication and perseverance. As the hours add up, we find ourselves in need. Can you help fund the ongoing battle by contributing to our fundraiser? Or contact us directly by replying to this email to make other arrangements.
